Many motor vehicle manufacturers now design into their cars electrical systems the ability for the car to recognise when a trailer has been connected.

The vehicle will then alter its characteristics to help create a safe towing environment for the vehicle and its passengers. These features can now easily be activated using the new Auto Code tool.

If the vehicle manufacturer provides the functionality to adapt braking and stability systems whilst towing, then the fitter and the customer will increase the safety when towing.

This great looking VW is a much cheaper alternative for those of you who want a Mercedes CLS but can’t afford one.

VW CC Overview

The elegant four-door coupe 1.8-litre TSI 160 PS or 2.0-litre TSI 210 PS petrols and a 2.0-litre TDI common rail diesel with either 140 or 170 PS.

The CC to get is the 2.0-litre TDI 170 PS DSG with BlueMotion Technology and GT trim level, which costs £30,100, which is still good value, especially as it returns 51 mpg.

The new CC comes with a thoroughly upgraded design, featuring new headlights and radiator grille, reprofiled front bumper, completely redesigned bumper and new LED tail lights. All models with 170 PS or more also now get a standard XDS differential, an electronic cross-axle traction control system for improved traction and handling.

This is VWs  first entry into the dedicated pick-up segment. Entering the pick-up market is a major part of its assault on Toyota’s position as the global sales leader. The Amarok faces off against the likes of the Toyota Hilux, the Nissan Navara and the Mitsubishi Triton.

Volkswagen offers a number of options for the Amarok, including hard and soft tonneau covers for the rear tub, and a moulded tubliner or boot mats, formed to the contour of the tub.

At launch in the UK, the Amarok will be offered only as a double-cab in three trim levels and with a choice of two turbo diesel engines. Prices start from £16,995 for the Startline model and £18,995 for the Trendline, whilst the top of the range Highline will cost from £21,575.

In fact, they undergo a series of static and track tests that submit them to forces and loadings way beyond what will be experienced in normal towing conditions. So, if you have chosen the Towcar of the Year, make sure you have a towbar that will live up to the same standards.

You can choose flange or swan neck style tow-balls with fixed or detachable options. If you decide on the new Witter Flange Detachable you will be able to fit a range of accessories not possible with swan neck tow-balls including tow-bar mounted cycle carriers and bumper shields. This is most useful when you want to tow a caravan or trailer and carry cycles at the same time.
